Nelson Rejoins the Warriors - What took so long?
The GSW today announced that Mike Montgomery has accepted a buyout and will no longer be coach of the GSW. Tomorrow night, the GSW will announce that Don Nelson will return and coach the GSW this year and probably for several years after.
Two years ago, I openly predicted to anyone that would listen that Don Nelson would be the next coach of the GSW after Eric Musselman was fired. Instead, the GSW got fancy, thought they were cute and hired a collegiate coach (Montgomery) to lead them. What did they get - two (2) 34 - 48 seasons, disharmony among the players and an agitated fan base.
Now GSW fans have Nellie. A likable man, a master of weird matchups and a coach who seemingly has refused to acknowledge that the game is played inside-out instead of outside-in. The result will be a game of no-defense, lots of scoring runs, 115 - 112 classics and if GSW is lucky, a first round playoff berth.
Sound wonderful? I am a purist, so I am not the biggest Nellie supporter. But I will be very happy to see Mike Dunleavy score 20 points and grab 6 rebounds a game while dishes out 5 assists. But have no grand illusions about the GSW. They will remain a team mired in mediocrity until they get a \"5\" and play the game from the inside-out. That will not happen with our pal Nellie back ranting and raving at the north end bench in the Arena at Oakland (may some dumb-ass sponsor will be elated and pony up some $$$ to change the name. I like the name DejavuSports. Seems to be the theme in Oakland during the last 24 hours (First Jeff George, now Nellie).
This will be a fun season to watch!

First NBA Blog
Finally, my first blog entry for the forthcoming NBA season. I am looking forward to my 14th season as a radio stat man for the GSW. The GSW needs some upgrading, but the season will be exciting. Check this blog regularly throughout Aug., Sept. and Oct., then after every regular season GSW game.
This blog will also cover all NBA news, players and events, not to mention content about being a stat man for a live NBA broadcast. Looking forward to having some fun this NBA season.
