Allan Brown's All NBA Team

Every media outlet has their own NBA team. The NBA has there All-NBA team. Hell, they even have the NBA Top 50 Best of All-Time. Well, if they can have their teams, I can have mine. And like John Madden's All-Madden team, the make-up is not by position, just who are the best team players in the NBA. Notice I have many "back to the basket players" on my team. That is because the game is an "inside-out" game, not an "outside-in" game. Here they are, the Allan Brown All-NBA Team! (pictures courtesy of www.nba.com):

Robert Horry, F San Antonio Spurs
Consummate team player. Six titles with 3 teams, playing 3 different roles. In Houston, he was a defender in the Scottie Pippen model who could shoot 3. He moves the LAL, via PHX, gains 30 lbs because LAL had no power forward, rebounds and hits big shot after big shot while shutting down opposing forwards. Magic Johnson thought he should retire, he says no, moves to SAN and the legend of Big Shot Rob lives on! 14 seasons, 14 appearances in the second round or better. NBA finals record 24 -9. Every team in the Association longs for his clone.

Richard Hamilton, G, Detroit Pistons
I do not follow college basketball (bores me to tears), but I knew of this guy. He is a champ. NCAA title, NBA title, 2x NBA finalist. Great mid-range shooter; best in the game. Good passer - perfect for DET.

Shaquille O'Neal, C, Miami Heat
Most dominant center of his era. Worked hard to learn to pass out of the double team; makes his teammates better. He ran himself out of LAL with his ego and mouth, but that does not diminish his skills. Expect 4 more years of greatness!

Ben Wallace, C, Detroit Pistons
Premier low post defender. Hard worker who makes teammates so much better on the defensive end. Rebounds like Dennis Rodman, with more talent. If you Don't like Big Ben, you don't like NBA basketball.

Kurt Thomas, C/F, Phoenix Suns
A double-double performer on a bad team. Great college player (he had to be, I knew who he was), who started career badly with ankle issues. Came to NYK and gave heart and soul to a team engulfed with managerial issues (Isiah Thomas). The NYK got racked when they traded him (come to think of it, when was the last time (err first time) Isiah Thomas made a good trade). Thomas will give PHX interior defensive and toughness. 9 somehow, Isiah Thomas will continue to fall upward).

Tim Duncan, F/C, San Antonio Spurs
Consummate pro. The Big Fundamental just brings it every night, without flash or fanfare. Perfect for SAN. His numbers speak for themselves. Only 1 first round exit (v. PHX in 2000 when he was hurt). That will never happen again! Great team player on a great team with a great coach! Imagine how much more effective he would be if he had Kurt Thomas helping him. Scary! (are you reading this RC?)

Kobe Bryant, G, Los Angeles Lakers
If you do not like him, don't invite him to dinner. Fact is, Bryant can flat out ball. He is intense, talented and a hard worker. He has three rings as one of the two leading players on the LAL, averages over 20ppg and holds opponents down. Record in the NBA Finals is 19 - 7. Four conference final appearances, four wins. People pay top $$$ to see him play; always have; always will.

Lamar Odom, F, Los Angeles Lakers
Odom can play the 1, 2, 3 or 4. He has Magic Johnson like talent. Gut instinct says that Jax will play him some at the point. He was great with MIA and he will be great w/LAL in the right offensive scheme. When on his game, he is a top 10 NBA player.

Steve Nash, PG, Phoenix Suns
Quick, Tough, Leader, Confident, Shooter, Passer. The NBA quintessential point guard. His numbers do not give justice to what he did for PHX. He makes people better. Isn't that what a PG is supposed to do. PHX wins 62 games; he misses 8 and PHX loses 7 of 8. 'Nuff said.

Baron Davis, PG, Golden State Warriors
A difference maker. Gets to the rim, plays defense, fundamental passer. Shoots the three. Strong as an ox. Played 10lbs overweight with GSW, will lose that for training camp. Can carry a team for long stretchs. Makes players better (Dunleavy, Pietrus, Foyle). Best player for GSW since Rick Barry.

Gilbert Arenas, PG, Washington Wizards
This guy was a second round pick. The rules prevented Gilbert from staying with GSW. Too bad because this guy can ball. Prime time player. Plays with a chip on his shoulder. A bit eccentric, but he backs up his word. Can get to the rim. Takes over games when the mood strikes him.

Dwayne Wade, PG, Miami Heat
Have no illusions, this is Shaq's team, but Wade is the impetus for their success. Strong body with ability to get to the rim and pull up and drain the 15ft. Plays solid defense (you cannot play for MIA if you slack defensively). Quiet leader whose presence commands respect. Willed MIA to second round in '04. Will win a championship in the next two seasons.

Amare Stoudamire, F/C, Phoenix Suns
NBA has never seen a specimen like this guy. And his is only 22. Flys like an eagle, strong as a Ox, FEARLESS! PASSIONATE! COACHABLE! Stoudamire brings a soft touch 15ft jumper to compliment his inside game. He can shoot foul shots. He is Barkley, Malone and McHale rolled into one, with a touch of Jordan's in-flight ability. Scary!

Brad Miller, F/C, Sacramento Kings
Tough inside, nice mid-range jumper (USA Basketball could have used him in Athens). Strong rebounder, good passer. SAC is missing one piece upfront after trading Webber. If they find that piece, Miller becomes that much better.

Jason Kidd, PG, New Jersey Nets
Key ingredient to the NJN success. NJN would have beat DET in '04 if he was healthy in Games 6 and 7. Makes all the sacrifices necessary to win. Complete player (triple double artist; tremendous defender) who gets up the court faster than anyone in the NBA. Great looking wife!

Manu Ginobili, G, San Antonio Spurs
This guy is so talented, so fearless. One of the few players I will pay to see. Goes to the rim strong, Good mid-range jumper. Defenses have to know where he is at all times. A very good onball defender.

Ray Allen, G, Seattle Supersonics
Smooth, confident, smart. An offensive machine. Another player USA Basketball could have used last year. This guy tells it the way it is, damn the consequences. He also carried a mediocre team to 52 wins. Any Ray Allen led team will compete every night. That is more than good enough for me.

Elton Brand, F, Los Angeles Clippers
Too bad he plays for the Clippers. He is tough, talented and a complete big man. Great with his back to the basketball, Brand has a soft touch and a fiery disposition. He would be great most teams, esp. the SAN, GSW and NYK! Why Chicago traded him is beyond me. He is worth the big contract the LAC paid him.

Ron Artest, F/G, Indiana Pacers
Just like Kobe, if you do not like him, don't invite him to dinner. He can play on my team anytime! Best on-ball defender in the NBA (that includes Bowen!), he can shoot and is a tireless worker. I hope his head is screwed on straight. IND is my favorite out of the Eastern Conference for next season - he is the main reason why!

Kevin Garnett, F, Minnesota Timberwolves
He is the Big Ticket, the big long ticket. Ever see this guy's arms? Geez, no wonder he is a great defender. Tremendous athlete, runs the court well, rebounds, shoot down at the basket - he does it all! A joy to watch!
