Welcome to my NFL Power Rating 2005!

These are my own special ratings that I build without the help of Peter King, Chris Mortensen, Jim Gray, Chris Berman or any of the other pundits of the "Game They Play for Pay". I will post weekly updates every Wednesday. Sit back, get a chuckle and feel free to email me with your thoughts at opinion@allan-brown.com.

Week 15 Highlights

  • KC v NYG - Must game for both teams, played in NYC twilight!
  • DAL v WASH - This game is basically "win or go home". I bet Wash goes home!
  • SD v INDY - Just when we thought SD was down, they surprise us. They will again Sunday!
  • Notes from Week 14:

Playoffs are three weeks away, but there seems to be very little sense of urgency. Ole Blue barely beats The GREEN, the DONKEYS scratch by the Bad Birds and DAL beats KC at home in the last minute to salvage their season. CAR plays terrible in a home loss v. TB. And Marty's Team...Will someone please step up and challenge INDY!!!

Sorry BEAR fans (not me, the BEAR, but the CHIC BEARS), but your team is going nowhere when Jim Stutts, James Slater and the Whale are a better Big Three than what the real BEARS offer. The Bears offense are an extension of the Cubs bats, but on steroids (wait a minute, isn't that the other way around?)...BTW - my brother, Michael Brown, will be attending his 10th NYG game Saturday afternoon - how is that for dedication...Goodbye Tin Men, we hate to see you go...and yes, STL still stinks, DEN is still overrated and I seriously wonder about HOU after that FG attempt...Lets get rid of the bad football and bring me some playoffs!

Congratulations to INDY. Big win in JAX. Now they draw the desparate Chargers! Can they run the table? Shoot me your opinion to opinion@allan-brown.com

  • Good bye SF and OAK - you may be local, but I kept both of you in way my ranking way too long. I have face the facts - they both suck!
  • Not longer the leagues patsy's, now they are winning games in the last minute. CINTI has matured fast and will be fun to watch in January (maybe Feb.).
  • NYG is on "hold on"mode. They finally met the injury bug. This week, we will see how deep they are. And Eli, please start playing with some consistency. NYG needs you now!
  • Another boring win for THE EX-CHAMPS, they will be tough in the playoffs, no matter who they play.
  • In excusable loss for Marty's team. Mario Ike could have played nose guard and done better for SD. Hard to believe that they will not make the playoffs.
  • Question - if DAL was whipped out by a tornado, would the NFL treat the Cowboys better than they did the Saints?
  • I do not buy into MINN success one bit. Soft schedule has helped them tremendously. They will tank this week v. PITT. Bank on it( hint hint).

    1. Power Ratings
    2. Indianapolis Colts - Don, you better hold the cork for a while! Impressive win in JAX. ESPN's darling now draw Marty's Team, who must win or go home!
    3. Seattle Seahawks - This team just keeps getting better and better! Watch out INDY! This team will give them a run next week!
    4. Cincinnati Bengals - I like the way they held on last week. They are well-coached, explosive offensively and a better than average defensive squad. Interesting to see how they respond to playoff ball.
    5. New York Giants - Tough win in PHIL cost them Pierce, Joseph and perhaps two lineman. Not good news for Saturday's matchup v KC. Eli better be up for this one!
    6. Donkeys - Tough win at home against the BAD BIRDS. Inconsistent last few weeks for the DONKEYs. Time to ramp up or get out!
    7. Jacksonville Jaguars - Hope all of you Power Rating fans did not bet on my recommendation. Score was not indicative of how bad JAX was spanked. Now they get to spank SF!
    8. Dallas Cowboys - Tough beat for Coach Bill #1. Playoffs are still in reach, but they have some hurdles to jump. KC at home is a toughie!
    9. San Diego Chargers (Marty's Team) - So much for smoking the PHISH! Terrible performance. Laid the perverbial egg!
    10. Kansas City Chiefs - Tough beat in a big game. Bring on the wounded G-MEN in a must win situation!
    11. Pittsburgh Steelers - A big win v. overrated CHIC, but they had to have this win. Coach Bill #3 will have them ready for the vastly overrated Piglets!
    12. Carolina Panthers - Last 5 weeks, CAR have been up and down. Gotta be up or they will be out sooner than expected.
    13. Chicago Bears - Sorry CHIC fans - No "O" means No chance for a championship! but I hope they hold off the PIGLETS!
    14. The YUKS - Huge win v. CAR! Simms is playing like is old man - tough and smart. Ronde Barber is the man! Great Defense!

    15. The ex-Champs - Listless win v. terrible BUFF. Getting healthy - only 16 pts per game scored aganist THE CHAMPS in the past 5 games.
    16. The Sister You Kiss on the Cheek During the Holiday
    17. Atlanta Falcons - Huge game v CHIC this week. Can they win - yeah. Will they win - not w/VICK ailing.
    18. The Green (EX - Slime) - Tough beat for The Green v. Ole Blue. but the effort was not surprising. Who the hell is that NAACP Chapter leader? Jackass!
    19. Washington Redskins - Huge game v. DAL this Sunday. If they get lucky and win, they could be playing Old Blue for the division! No kidding! Unbelievable.
    20. PHISH - Big win v. Marty's Team. The NFL is better when the PHISH are competitive. And what a hook they suck into old Marty! Ouch! Now they need a QB!
    21. The Bottom Feeders
    22. Mahwah High School Class of 1979 - Kraus pulled a Junkin! John Kraus botched the snap for the go ahead FG (0-0), but Mark Bernhardt recovered the errand ball and threw a 25 yd. TD to Cardon Raquet as Mahwah beat Wood Ridge 56 - 6. Actually, Kraus was off the hook at the 13:35 mark of the first qtr., but at least he did not have to wear the horns!
    23. The Buffalo Wings - A methodical loss to THE EX-CHAMPS. Nothing to hang their heads over. But McGahee has been a dog since he declared himself the best running back in the NFL.
    24. New Orleans Saints - These guys have been screwed over 7 ways to Sunday all year long. Now they are going with a new QB. The season could not end soon enough.
    25. Cleveland Browns - Great effort v. CINTI - last minute loss hurt. With Edwards out for the year, it will truly be hard to judge Frye. Bring on the Tin Men!
    26. Tennessee Titans - I admire this team. They play hard and the owner has not fired the coach. TENN will draft well and be back, with Fisher as the coach. Gotta like a team like TENN!
    27. The Sister you Would Never Kiss
    28. The Piglets
    29. Houston Texans
    30. Gang Green
    31. Bad Birds
    32. Arizona Cardinal
    33. Detroit Lions
    34. Green Bay Packers
    35. The St. Louis Rams
    36. The Tin Men
    37. San Francisco 49ers

    38. PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ronde Barber is just a stud. He is the catalyst of the TB Defensive. Three picks gets my attention, esp. in a big game. Congratulations Ronde!

    Notes from Week 10:

What a choke job by The Green Slime!!! All the adversity they have overcame all went down the toilet in 21 seconds!!! And they lost their leader, perhaps for the rest of the season. And no, I am not talking about Terrell Owens. Brutal, brutal loss to the POKES. But I have to say, I love it! Coach Bill #1 got some sort of karma payback from Week 2. Now it is time for Ole Blue to stop licking their wounds from Sunday's fix v. Piglets and kick the feathers off of The Green Slime. As for another Sunday debacle, the Tin Men stink. No chance in hell they can make the playoffs with an 0 -4 divisional record! They stay in the rankings for my personal delight to pound them own to the size of a corn can!

Five of the top seven teams from last week's ratings won in week 10. Only Ole Blue and the Falcons came up big losers versus very bad teams. CAR soared over the JETS, INDY and PITT played a team that had no business entering the league, SEA continues to show why they are a contender and you can never count out THE CHAMPS!

Which team is headed for the number 1 pick, SF or HOU? Enquiring Minds want to know. Shoot me your opinion to opinion@allan-brown.com

  • Good bye ARZ, NYJ and BALT - your OUT of the ranking. I am keeping The Tin Men in the ratings for comic relief.
  • From the prominent Michael Oster of Oakland, CA - Tin Men are 2 - 14 in AFC West since Super Bowl appearance. Must eat up Al Davis every waking moment. No wonder he looks horrific!
  • SF really puts up a good fight! But when The Commander goes 1 - 12 and the wind was kicking up like Katrina. The record 108 yd return does not happen in the wind and perhaps SF upsets the Bears!!! Some funny looking field goals in that burner in CHIC
  • It is just not GUS FREOTTE's year. What year was???
  • Wonder if Tom Jackson thinks Eli's point-shaved Sunday's game v. Piglets? I wonder too! Too much funky stuff on special teams; questionable referee calls and a porous last minute defense! hmm... I am still pissed!
  • SEA is for real. Alexander the Great. Defense is not too shabby either. Bring on SF - almost like a bye week. Almost
  • I have CAR on my mind. So should you!!! Maybe the best all around NFC team!
  • Good bye TO? Not for long. My bet is that he will suit up for someone other than the Eagles in 2005. I think he has a gripe, but he sure takes the path paved for village idiots as his route for expressing his point. No complaints from this supporter of the Ole Blue! Why is Jesse Jax involved? Just go away!!!
  • Playoff races starting to shape up. Watch out for JAGS and DAL! Two sleepers who just may surprise you.
  • After ATL and NYG stunning losses to NFC North Stalwarts MINN and GB, is the NFC North as bad as we all previously thought?

      Power Ratings
    1. Indianapolis Colts - ESPN's darlings won a game v. a team that has no business playing NFL ball. Looking forward to CINTI on Sunday!
    2. Pittsburgh Steelers - Despite injuries, they won a game they should have. Sign of a well-coached contender!
    3. Carolina Panthers - Took some of that skunk smell and laid it all over the fallen Gang Green. Strong contender.
    4. Seattle Seahawks - Alexander just keeps running and running the SEA into a wild card bye!
    5. New York Giants - Pathetic showing. Unexpected and just terrible. Special Teams - ouch! And they still were able to tie it after 58 1/2 minutes. Hopefully an aberration.
    6. Dallas Cowboys - Big move up the ladder for Coach Bill #1. Helluva of a comeback! The NFC East race is exciting. Who said Drew was done? Not me!!!
    7. The Champs - Do not ever count these guys out. They might stink for three quarters, but they are dangerous to the end.
    8. Donkeys - Ass-whipped the Tin Men. Easy roadie for a team that just is not as good as public opinion gives them credit for.
    9. San Diego Chargers (Marty's Team) - BYE WEEK gives them time to heal. Bring on the Buffalo Wings./li>
    10. Cincinnati Bengals - BYE WEEK before biggest game in CINTI since '81 playoffs v SD. Go Tigers Go!

    11. The Next Best 3
    12. Atlanta Falcons - What the hell was that? Michael Vick laid another egg and the defense let guy with a Mafia name milk them dry. psst...
    13. Jacksonville Jaguars - Butt-kicked a bad team. As they should! D is tough! O broke 30 without Fred Taylor!
    14. Chicago Bears - Defense Defense Defense Defense Defense. Special Teams Special Teams Special Teams Special Teams No O No O No O No O

    15. The Parity Rules These 7
    16. The Buffalo Wings - Don't count them out! Losman played well and the D was super. Bring on SD!
    17. The Green Slime - Nice effort v. WASH with all the adversity. Defense is not what it has been. Where was Westbrook on 4th down? Just curious...
    18. Kansas City Chiefs - Laid a rotten egg after last week. Both Wings QB and RB go down and KC cannot take advantage. Ouch!
    19. Washington Redskins - Trap roadie L v YUKS. Not totally unexpected. Offense clicked, but the D was either sunburned or blinded by Phil's kids blonde locks.
    20. The YUKS - Must win at home. 36pts - where did that come from???
    21. St. Louis Rams - Got stomped on by a superior team. Nuff said.
    22. PHISH - Outplayed THE CHAMPS for three quarters, but it is a 4 quarter game. Ricky could not run.

    23. The Bottom Feeders
    24. The Tin Men - Doug Gabriel sees more balls than Moss and Porter combined. Not bad for a sand lot player! Collins was just dreadful. Tom Jackson, your thoughts?
    25. Detroit Lions - Joey Harrington made the all ARZ opponents team for the third straight year. Can he repeat this performance v. DAL?
    26. New Orleans Saints - Bye Week. Thank goodness!!!
    27. Mahwah High School Class of 1979 - Spanked Midland Park 42 - 3. Milardo and Floyd became first MHS receivers to catch 10 passes for 120+ yards in same game. Lellek 6/6PAT. Brown 2.5 sacks; Mullier and Zarcone 6 tackles and numerous pressures. Just don't look ahead to Ramsey.
    28. Green Bay Packers - 5th string runner looks like Paul Hornung. They play hard aganist overrated ATL D!
    29. Cleveland Browns - Played tough v. superior PITT team! Good for them. Showed some promise.
    30. Tennessee Titans - Bye Week. Will keep playing hard despite being under-manned.
    31. San Francisco 49ers - Cannot wield my axe if the wind is too strong. And it was oderless!
    32. <No Longer Worth Mentioning
    33. The Piglets
    34. Houston Texans
    35. Gang Green
    36. Bad Birds
    37. Arizona Cardinal

    38. PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Alexander scores 3. Cado (who?) scores 3 and MINN D and Specials score 3. With Alexander, this is habitual. Congrats guys, we have 22 players of the week!!!

      Week 7 Highlights
PHIL v NYG - NFC EAST rivalry pits a pissed off NYG v a somber, riddled Green Slime. But have not fear, these teams will beat the daylights out of each other.
CAR v CHIC - NFC Best all-around team v the New Monsters of the Midway! One bloody battle to come.
INDY v CINTI - Two towns, 70 miles, no rivalry. Well, that is going to change!

Have an opinion? Don't be shy, share it with me! Drop me an email at Opinion@allan-brown.com.

    Notes from Week 9:

Peyton Manning finally got the monkey off his back. INDY kicked THE CHAMPS six ways to next Sunday on MNF! Impressive performance on Offense, Defense and Specials. INDY is for real. They will not run the table (JAX and PITT will be tough), but I look forward to seeing them in the AFC Conference Championships. But, remember, still tons of ball left to be played. Watch out for KC, SD, PITT and JAX in the AFC. As the for NFC, NYG and SEA are pointing towards their Thanksgiving meeting in the Pacific Northwest, looking for NFC bragging rights. CAR and ATL will have a problem with that statement, but who cares.

  • Last week's top five teams in the ratings won in week 8. THE CHAMPS laid an egg; CAR smoked the YUKS and Marty's Team finally held onto a road 4th Qtr lead.

Shanahan, Mora, Coughlin, Coach Bill #1' Coach Bill #2 - who is the best coach? Enquiring Minds want to know. Shoot me your opinion to opinion@allan-brown.com

  • It's getting pretty stinkee in YUK-ville. The stench is overwhelming. Bad home loss v. division rival.
  • NYG showed up in SF and kicked ass! Will SF score another TD soon. Not v. CHIC this week.
  • It is just not Brett Favre's year.
  • Nice Defense Tin Men. OAK is up for their biggest win since AFC CHAMPIONSHIP v. TENN in '02 and the Defense tanked. Pathetic.
  • SEA is for real. Alexander the Great. Defense is not too shabby either, although Sharper loss will hurt.
  • Tom Jackson is great! Did you hear him say the #52 (TIN MEN LB K. Morrison) was pointshaving on the last series v. KC! Classic, simply classic!
  • Good bye TO? Not for long. My bet is that he will suit up for someone other than the Eagles in 2005. I think he has a gripe, but he sure takes the path paved for village idiots as his route for expressing his point. No complaints from this supporter of the Ole Blue!
  • CLEVE, SF, BALT, ARZ AND GB are all on the bubble. Who is getting the boot? Only the BEAR knows...
  • The injury bug stung J. Sharper, B. Berry, P. Holmes, W. Parker, among others This league just keeps getting more and more violent!
  • After watching the Aints on Sunday afternoon, I know that the gods of Mardi Gras are punishing them for bolting town. Then again, I bolt that hellhole too! The Aints couldn't get luck if they went to a whorehouse with a fist full of $20 bills

    1. Power Ratings
    2. Indianapolis Colts - ESPN's darlings came through like a thoroughbred house. Left THE CHAMPS in the dust. Still 1/2 season left, but INDY is the first half winner!
    3. Pittsburgh Steelers - Solid win v. bad but spirited Pack! Defense was tremendous. Batch and Staley was strong. PITT is tough!
    4. New York Giants - Commander Cody was stoned! But Ole Blue figured it out and ran away from SF in the second half.
    5. Atlanta Falcons - Great defense v. FRE ROTTE. Offense looked good too.
    6. Seattle Seahawks - Butt-whipped falling AZ in the desert. Alexander is special! Bring on the LAMBS!
    7. Carolina Panthers - Dropped the skunk smell all across Tampa Bay.Just like they should have.
    8. The Champs - The reign is almost over. Enjoyed it while it lasted. I love Coach Bill #2 - throws the red flag in a tantrum. Pretty funny!
    9. Donkeys - BYE week. Bring on the Tin Men!
    10. San Diego Chargers (Marty's Team) - Finally held onto a 4th QTR lead. LT is great! Defense barely held on./li>
    11. Cincinnati Bengals - Beat up a bad team called the BAD BIRDS. Just like the doctor ordered

    12. The Next Best 3
    13. The Green Slime - Nice effort v. WASH with all the adversity. Defense is not what it has been. Where was Westbrook on 4th down? Just curious...
    14. Dallas Cowboys - BYE WEEK - Ready for The Green Slime on MNF!
    15. Jacksonville Jaguars - Who cares if they don't score 30pts. Just win, JAGS!

    16. The Parity Rules These 8
    17. The Buffalo Wings - BYE - big one coming v. KC
    18. Kansas City Chiefs - I love Coach Vermeil. Ballsy move on 4th down. Shoved it up the Tin Men's *(*&^*(). Games like this make me love football
    19. Chicago Bears - Defense Defense Defense Defense Defense
    20. Washington Redskins - Tough, hard hitting win v. The Green Slime. Divisional wins v. rivals are always good.
    21. The YUKS - YUK YUK YUK YUK YUK YUK YUK
    22. St. Louis Rams - BYE - BIG division game in SEA. Need Bulger, Holt, Bruce and the gang healthy now.
    23. PHISH - TEST FAILED. Still an also ran. Run Ricky Run!
    24. The Tin Men - Brutal loss v. rival KC. Worst loss in years. No division wins = no playoffs for the TIN MEN
    25. Detroit Lions - "thisclose" to being cut. Terrible

    26. The Bottom Feeders
    27. Baltimore Ravens (BAD BIRDS) - They get Boller back this week, but really, the season is over for the BAD BIRDS. Time to officially fly south for the winter.
    28. Gang Green - NYJ showed guts, but came up short. Still have a shot in a bad division, but they needs Ws now.
    29. New Orleans Saints - Neville Brothers voodoo could not help them now.
    30. Arizona Cardinals - Season is lost. My biggest disappointment. Tons of injuries. See you in '06.
    31. Mahwah High School Class of 1979 - BYE week. Need win v. Midland Park to right the ship. Linemen are in disarray after HAWTHORNE loss. Too much of something happened in the locker room before the game.
    32. Green Bay Packers - Sorry cheeseheads, but your team is aging, hurt and lacks talent. But they play hard!
    33. Tennessee Titans - They play hard, but they are going to make the cut.
    34. San Francisco 49ers - The Commander is lost. But SF does not abandon the ship! But I just may have to wield the ax.
    35. Cleveland Browns - Received a stay of execution because I like old NYG coaches
    36. No Longer Worth Mentioning
    37. The Piglets
    38. Houston Texans

    39. PLAYER OF THE WEEK
LT scores 4; Alexander scores 2. These guys are the cream of the crop. SD and SEA are nowhere without these two stars.

      Week 7 Highlights
NE v MIA - AFC EAST rivalry is always interesting, especially with two hard-hitting defenses. Does not matter that THE CHAMPS are a superior team, this one will be tough.
DAL v PHIL - Rival NFC East matchup pits two great coaches and lots of hard hits
DEN v OAK - Tin Men other bitter AFL rivals. A must game for OAK is not an understatement.

Have an opinion? Don't be shy, share it with me! Drop me an email at Opinion@allan-brown.com.

    Notes from Week 8:
When Tiki Barber first came into the NFL in '97, I thought that he was nothing more than a highly-touted bust. Unable to pick the hole or hold onto the ball, NYG parked him close to the bench, but always within shouting distance. He had a dreadful '98, but started turning things around in '99 and was the featured back on the NYG '00 Super Bowl team. Five seasons later, well past the prime for RBs his age, he just keeps turning his game up a notch. Sunday's performance should tell everyone all they need to know about Tiki. He was a man's man and just plowed over WASH for 200+ yards and a TD (he was three yards away from three TDs). He played with the heart of a Giant, just as his friend Wellington Mara would have liked.

Three of the top five teams in the ratings tanked this week and #6 played like crap. SF, GB and BALT are on the bubble (SF has not been dumped because they play hard!)

Shanahan, Mora, Coughlin, Coach Bill #1' Coach Bill #2 - who is the best coach? Enquiring Minds want to know. Shoot me your opinion to opinion@allan-brown.com

  • The YUKs lived up to their name. Should never have gotten on the plane. Chris Simms is not Phil Simms. And the Yuks are the Yuks. Pretenders.
  • I attended Sundays YUKs/SF game and I had a sobering moment. I saw Phil Simms' son stink up the same field where I saw Phil play some meaningful contests v. SF in the '80s and '90s. I think the older Simms was a helluva QB, but he could not win in SF either (one win in 6 tries 12.1.86 when Bavaro carried Ronnie Lott and friends 30 yards down field.
  • It is just not Brett Favre's year.
  • I root for the Tin Men, but let's not get too excited. If they did not have the lucky 14 point swing in 2Q (penalty negates Punt Return for TD, then OAK scores on D), OAK loses!
  • The NFL is full of crap when it maintains that they want the Aints to stay in LA. Tags statement was just plain crap!
  • I was right, Clinton Portis stunk v. Ole Blue
  • Nice defensive effort for the Green Slime. McNabb is playing on guts. The Green Slime is a shadow of its recent past. I love it!
  • No casualties this week. SF, GB and BALT all received a stay of execution for at least two weeks. CLEVE on the other hand...
  • The injury bug stung D. Culpepper (for perhaps 1.5 seasons), STL Coach Vitt, A. Singleton, A. Boldin and C. Samuels. This league just keeps getting more and more violent!
  • I think that the Aints have given up. The deck is stacked aganist them. Injuries, referees, hurricanes, Tags - all have had a cumulative effect. Too bad, they have tons of talent.

    1. Power Ratings
    2. Indianapolis Colts - BYE - finally, ESPN'S darlings will be tested in Week 9 v. THE CHAMPS (MNF). Betcha they lose again!
    3. Pittsburgh Steelers - Fortunate to squeak by the Bad Birds. Tells me tons about well-coached teams (they do not tank!) Good PITT defense!
    4. New York Giants - Home field warriors smoke WASH! Now they fly back to SF (I cannot go to the game, I have to be in NY! Damn!) to play SF and Commander Cody! SF plays tough D, but they are overmatched!
    5. Atlanta Falcons - BYE WEEK. Next game at PHISH. Should win this one, but you never know.
    6. Seattle Seahawks - BYE - travel to AZ. Are they an elite team? No, but they are very good on both sides of the ball.
    7. The Champs - Nice Sunday night comeback for THE CHAMPS and terrific Tedy. But they were outplayed by BUFF for 3.5 Qtrs.
    8. Donkeys - They slapped the Green Slime. Balanced O; tough D may = AFC West Championship. Much better than I thought.
    9. Carolina Panthers - Just torched the Piglets. Just like they should have.
    10. San Diego Chargers (Marty's Team) - Should have blown KC off the map. Let them stay in the game. Oh, that's right, Marty only kicks the Tin Men's butt.
    11. Cincinnati Bengals - Let a bad, undermanned GB team stay in the game. Thank goodness for the fan.

    12. The Next Best 3
    13. The Green Slime - How the mighty have fallen. With WASH up next, looking straight at 4 - 4. Good Riddance.
    14. Dallas Cowboys - Romped over AZ for the 16th consecutive time during regular season in DAL. So what!
    15. Jacksonville Jaguars - They have an easy schedule coming up (HOU, TENN 2x, SF, ARZ, BALT). Only toughies left is INDY at home. Should have beat STL on the road.

    16. The Parity Rules These 8
    17. The Buffalo Wings - Played well against THE CHAMPS, just not well enough. McGahee is a horse; Holcomb is ____________, err you fill in the blank.
    18. The YUKS - The O is dreadful and the D is great. I thought Gruden was an O coach! YUK YUK YUK
    19. Kansas City Chiefs - Failed in SD, but was expected being a road divisional dog. Trent Green played well, but little else to say. Big contest at home v. Tin Men
    20. Chicago Bears - Defense is opportunistic; Offense is so-so. Orton over Grossman when #8 returns in a couple of weeks. I say DET passes them in the end.
    21. Washington Redskins - And pretenders they are. They are better than the 36 - 0 romping they took, but not by much.
    22. St. Louis Rams - Stephen Jackson came of age. STL weapons are a week away from returning. Sorry, but they stink.
    23. PHISH - Easy win against morally defeated NO. Rickey and Ronnie ran all over them. Big Test V. ATL at home.
    24. The Tin Men - Jerry Porter is healthy. A key to any success for the Tin Men. Defense finally scored first TD since 2003. Congrats.
    25. Detroit Lions - Banged up team gets a bad beat in OT. With the injuried and suspended returning, they will continue to challenge CHIC

    26. The Bottom Feeders
    27. Baltimore Ravens (BAD BIRDS) - Gutty effort v. division foes comes up shourt. But if you saw the game, you just knew that would happen. What was that 4th down call? Weird.
    28. Gang Green - BYE - this week Marty's Team comes ot East Rutherford. NYJ just does not have it this year.
    29. New Orleans Saints - They have given up, not I really cannot blame them. The running game did not show up; defense was lousy and the QB is a schizo.
    30. Arizona Cardinals - Just when I thought they could turn this around...Divisional foe SEA at home. Must win if they want to save season.
    31. Green Bay Packers - Sorry cheeseheads, but your team is aging, hurt and lacks talent. But they play hard!
    32. Mahwah High School Class of 1979 - Playing under the lights, MHS suffered from poor QB play, a drugged out lineman and a bad fumble call on Bowens as they lost to rival Hawthorne 10 - 9. Bowens did not fumble on the HAW 10 with less than 3 minutes to pay. Bad loss for the T-BIRDS!
    33. Tennessee Titans - Nice comeback from down 17 - 0. Should have won this game. Credit the Tin Men for timely offense play in the Q4.
    34. San Francisco 49ers - Hard-hitting D stopped Phil's kid and the Pewter Caddy cold. Offense was a hand-off and a prayer not to fumble. They just signed the Bachelor, like he can help! Yeah!
    35. Cleveland Browns - Moving close to extinction. Can anyone say Offense?
    36. No Longer Worth Mentioning
    37. The Piglets
    38. Houston Texans

    PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tiki Barber was en fuego! Good things happen to good people. A true Giant upon men. Wish he had the other 2 TDs...

    Week 7 Highlights
CAR v TB - NFC South rivalry is always interesting, especially with two hard-hitting defenses.
PHIL v WASH - Rival NFC East matchup will be a doozy. I get to watch from a Philly sportsbar! It is going to be a fun Sunday night!
OAK v KC - Bitter AFL rivals in must match-up in the farmland. I expect the Tin Men to shed their name. But then again, they are the Tin Men. Moss and Porter will be ready to go at full strength for the first time all year
INDY v NE - THE CHAMPS own Peyton, but with depleted secondary, that may change. If not, check Peyton into Bellevue!

    Notes from Week 7:
The NFL Season is finally starting to take shape and one thing is apparent, there are no dominant teams. The two best squads are INDY and PITT and they are both beatable (PITT has lost 2x and INDY has played weak teams. Teams like the Donkeys, Green Slime, Ole Blue, Marty's Team and the Pokes all seem to have an on/off switch. The jury is still out on the YUKs, Panthers, Seahawks and Falcons. And some teams just flat out stink (HOU, GB, MINN, SF, BALT and NYJ). One thing for sure, more division games are coming up and these games will be fun (NFC EAST and SOUTH will be very competitive).

PITT v CINTI; ATL v NYJ; CHIC v BALT; DAL v SEA; KC v MIA - all were DUDS. DEN v NYG - a classic comeback (I remember a KC v NYG game in '84 where Simms led a 14 point comeback with 6 minutes left, ending in a 10 yard stike to Mowatt for the win! Memories, like the... well, you get the point.

    Notes from Week 6:
The Oakland Raiders (TIN MEN) have sunk to new lows. This heartless bunch that masquerades as professional football players has not played with heart or conviction since AFC Championship v. TEN in Jan.'03. The new veterans leadership (Sapp, Washington, Clark) are invisible; other long time Raiders (Woodson, Porter, SBASS) have not made a big play in who knows how long (Woodson since the Tuck) and the other players are here for the check. Listless performances at home, esp. in division games, are unacceptable. Norv is a coordinator, not a head guy. OAK needs a head coach who will kick some butt and light a fire underneath their asses. Better get one soon; Al is 76 and not getting any younger. Next debacle - BUFF at the half-empty Coliseum. As I tell friends, I have not attended OAK home games as a customer since Gang Green playoff win in '02. If Ole Blue were not coming to visit me NYE, my streak would continue.

Three of the top five teams in the ratings tanked this week. Three of the top 11 were fortunate. Can you spell parity? And thank you Piglets, you made my job easier.

Whose better, Tomlinson or Alexander? Enquiring Minds want to know. Shoot me your opinion to opinion@allan-brown.com

  • NYG and DAL played one helluva of a dud! Two good teams laid a couple of eggs! NYG egg was a bit bigger!
  • NFL defenses scored 7x and racked up 30+ TOs. And that does not include special teams. Maybe offensive players should participate in the tackling drills.
  • Santana Moss is lighting up the score sheet. Average TD reception is 47+yds. On pace for a 2000+ YD season. Finally looks like D. Snyder made a good player move.
  • I am still having a hard time buying the fact that the DEN is competitive. But they beat the The Champs
  • Seattle just may be the best the West has to offer. Alexander is something else. This team does not make the errors that it used to make. Something in the micro beers...
  • I still think Mark Brunell has game. So does Vinny. I am not so sure about Collins. I know the FRE ROTTE doesn't. And Tommy Maddox?
  • YUKS fan, here's to Chris Simms - hope he is 1/2 as good as his old man!
  • The Ratings now have two casualties. MINN (The Piglets) joins HOU in the banned list. This team traded a superstar for a bunch of spare parts. Then they have their own version of a cruise to nowhere! Hope the hookers were worth the trouble!
  • The injury bug stung R.Moss, E.Reed, K. Mawae, O. Pace, C. Emmons and B. Griese (see above). Is it me or are more players getting injuried and getting injuried badly?
  • LaDamian Tomlinson is very good. So is Willis McGahee, Shawn Alexander (he gets mentioned a bunch, doesn't he), Donnie Edwards, Carson Palmer and Ray Lewis.
  • STL is just plain ole terrible.

    1. Power Ratings
    2. Indianapolis Colts - Defense starts slow, then sets-up 21pts with TOs. No fear, ESPN's world-beaters are not second coming of '85 BEARS. One loss to a mediocre squad (schedule is filled with them) and their out of the top slot. Next week, lowly HOU!
    3. Pittsburgh Steelers - Kinda predictable. Tough MNF win v. Marty's team, x-cross travel, short week, injuries on o-side, Tommy Maddox. Can't beat them up too badly, esp. since JAGs play tough D. No Fears - Big Ben is back next week.
    4. Cincinnati Bengals - Palmer-Johnson + bend but don't break defense = playoffs for these once-horrible losers.
    5. San Diego Chargers (Marty's Team) - Marty made sure the Tin Men were so far in the rear-view mirror that the 4th QTR did not matter. Tomlinson (don't call him LT) is the best back since Payton. He can do it all!
    6. Dallas Cowboys - Just slightly better than NYG this week. Slightly. Big game in Seattle next week.
    7. The Green Slime - BYE. And not a word from Slime camp. How refreshing!
    8. The Champs - The Bye could not come soon enough. Dillon - DNP-CD - what is that about? 3-3 after 6 games. Hurts across the table and Holes in the Defense. No three-peat insight.
    9. Donkeys - Top grade "D". A coach who rarely puts in QB in position to make mistakes. This team does more with less. That is coaching, Donkey fans!
    10. New York Giants - Pathetic performance. Looked drunk from a night at the strip joints. Still had a chance to win. Not the road warriors of the Bill era (no real road W in over one year). TOs are unacceptable +10 before DAL, +6 after.

    11. The Next Best 4
    12. The YUKS - Spanked the PHISH, just like a #8 should. Lost the QB (Griese played well for them) - Give it to Phil's kid. No need to run the Pewter Caddy 35x.
    13. Carolina Panthers - Last minute thriller in DET. Happy for the roadie W. Tremendous run D (24 - 52)
    14. Seattle Seahawks - This crew is better than I thought. RB is sensational. QB operates well without WR#1 & 2. Maybe the best in the West!
    15. Atlanta Falcons - Benefited from a bad call v. San Antonio. Defense and Specials saved their butts. Outgained 456-266. No TOs = victory in this league.

    16. The Parity Rules These 12
    17. Jacksonville Jaguars - Great win on OT pick! JAGs defensive can play some ball!
    18. Washington Redskins - Had as much chance of winning in KC as I do with a chance to score with Miss Universe in a hall closet. KC had to win at home and they did. Give Gibbs Gang credit, they played hard and almost won. And I almost scored with Miss Universe...
    19. Kansas City Chiefs - Defense. Defense. When was the last time you heard that chant in KC?
    20. The Buffalo Wings - Quietly 3 - 3 and tied with the CHAMPS for first in AFC East. They do not score much, do not give up much. Under the radar, but rising after 2 division wins.
    21. Chicago Bears - Smacked around a bad team. Yippee. Now another bad team at home (Bad Birds). Yippee.
    22. New Orleans Saints - Almost vindicated for GB drubbing. Kicked ATL up and down the field. Needed the W. Came up "-" short. Defensive holding... hmm...
    23. PHISH - Road wimps. Ricky needs the ball more. Can you say FRE ROTTE? His 6.2 yds/pass was inflated.
    24. Detroit Lions - Just enough to lose a tight one at home. Next, roadie v. CLEVE. Yawn.
    25. Gang Green - If not for Curtis Martin, Gang Green would be covered with stink. Where was Vinny/Coles? Defense gives 27 to Buff? Get real!
    26. Arizona Cardinals - BYE WEEK. Looking to turn season around v.TENN.
    27. Cleveland Browns - Dilfer got to see old friend Ray Lewis. Lewis had a INT, Fumble, and 5 tackles. 3 TOs and 180 total O = L
    28. St. Louis Rams - Just not a very good football team.

    29. The Bottom Feeders
    30. Baltimore Ravens (BAD BIRDS) - Defense played well. There was a J. Lewis sighting. This team still stinks.
    31. The Tin Men - Reggie Bush, Reggie Bush (Al likes USC RBs)! He is the only hope.
    32. Green Bay Packers - BYE WEEK. Can they make it two in a row v. the Piglets?
    33. Mahwah High School Class of 1979 - A 5 touchdown schlacking of Glen Rock. Even Brown recovered a fumble and Raquet hit somebody! This team is rising fast! There was even a Steven Lellek sighting!
    34. Tennessee Titans - Nice effort v. CINN. Just do not have the horses.
    35. San Francisco 49ers - BYE WEEK. Now A#1 gets a whiff of Gibbs Gang in WASH.
    36. No Longer Worth Mentioning
    37. The Piglets
    38. Houston Texans

    PLAYER OF THE WEEK
LaDamian Tomlinson run, passed, caught and probably threw a block for a TD when he found the time. He owns the Tin Men! SD needed the road division win and they got it!

    Week 6 Highlights

DEN v NYG - SBXX rematch. Big game for both teams. A must win for NYG
SD v Green Slime - I wish I could attend this game! Tomlinson will run wild v. Slime
DAL v SEA - Lots of scoring. Great battle in the Pacific Northwest.
INDY v HOU - This week's stinker. Too bad INDY does not play a real game until THE CHAMPS Nov 6.

Have an opinion? Don't be shy, share it with me! Drop me an email at Opinion@allan-brown.com.

    Notes from Week 5:
With Ole Blue and the Tin Men idle, I spend more time watching the Blue Angel whiz by my home as opposed to making an appearance at Studio B and taking the views from the field of play. But that does not mean I missed a week of play. I know this much - there was some mediocre play played Sunday, some of it right under my nose in SF. Good to see the Green Slime fall apart on both sides of the ball; NE showed why they are The CHAMPS; the YUKS, CINN and ATL took hits to the "L" column and DEN should have joined that no so private party. And mostly importantly, this league has officially fulfilled Pete Rozelle's dream. On any given Sunday, just about any team can beat any other team! Home field does not matter, not at least this early in the season!

This week, I am adding a new feature - "Player of the Week". Also, there will be one new team added to the rankings - the Mahwah High School Class of 1979 - Group 1 State Champs. I figure that team would have competed with MINN, 49ers and Texans. So this week's ranking will have 33 teams. But, have no worries, I will be dropping teams from the ranking soon enough - saves me some work.

Whose better, Tomlinson or Alexander? Enquiring Minds want to know. Shoot me your opinion to opinion@allan-brown.com

  • The San Antonio Saints were embarrassed. The Pack ain't back; they stink. Just lousy football in the not-so-frozen tundra!
  • NFL penalties are up 2 per game per team and yards assessed are up 11 per contest. The officials can wave flags every play. Instant replay allows the league to rig games. My opinion, let these guys play. If the violation does not affect the play, then the ref should not throw the flag. Too many stoppages!
  • In the last year, LaVar Arrington has played more "palzie" with Tom Arnold than he has outside linebacker for WASH. Is he slow to recover from injury or just very over-rated?
  • Deuce is no longer on the loose. Torn ACL out for the season. This is crushing for the AINTS.
  • AZ needs to learn how to win football games. Should have had 2 this year in the desert. ATt 1-4, Seattle looks further up the map than just a plane ride away.
  • Why are WR wearing QB numbers? Why do hockey goalies wear WR numbers? Pretty soon, RBs will have "X" on their home jerseys; "Y" on the white road outfits. It is all nonsense to me!
  • PHISH fans - Ricky's Back! I know one Valorie that is happy!
  • The Ratings have there first casualty. HOU is gone. And I am sure nobody cares!!! They are a very very bad football team. With the offensive talent they have, HOU should have gotten off the heap. Too late now!
  • Did you know that the INDY Defense allows less than 1 TD/game? Who woulda thought?
  • Tom Brady is very good. So is Larry Fitzgerald, Steve Smith, Shawn Alexander, Matt Hasselbeck, Drew Bledsoe and Fred Taylor.
  • Why do people think Steven Jackson is so good? I am lost on this issue. He is not that good and it brings STL down hard.
  • Would SD have tanked if Bobby Ross was the head guy?

    The Betting Mulligan

I had to leave this in for Week 5 - it is too funny! - I was privy this weekend to something I had never heard of before - the Betting Mulligan. A good friend, to be referred to as only a "prominent businessman in the community" made a small wager on the KC/PHILA game. He took PHILA but after PHILA went down 17 - 0, declared the bet null and void because his guy B. Westbrook was not playing. He maintains that the bet was predicated upon the injury status of the running back. However, upon further review (sound familiar) , Westbrook was playing, just not getting as many touches as he would like. He insisted that the bet was cancelled. He wanted his betting mulligan!!! Obviously, it was denied; he won the bet anyway while his guy Westbrook played the whole game and even scored a 2pt. conversion! Does anybody have a bookie that will accept a Mulligan?

      Power Ratings
    1. Indianapolis Colts - Soft "W" v. SFO for ESPN's world-beater. Soft schedule. Not convinced here at all, but with the big guns tanking in Wk5, then get the top slot by default.
    2. Pittsburgh Steelers - Big win v SD. Big game for The Bus. Big loss without Big Ben. Next stop, JAX and their Big D. Big ain't so good for PITT right now.
    3. The Champs - The Champs passed a tough test! Brady may be the league's MVP! W/out TB, they are 1 - 4 with the fork firmly inserted. Congrats Coach Bill #1a
    4. New York Giants - BYE WEEK - off for the Game of the Week at DAL!!!
    5. Cincinnati Bengals - After 2 lackluster weeks, maybe Chad should try to revive more than the ball.
    6. Dallas Cowboys - Why has everyone written off Bill Parcells? His game plans overwhelmed the Green Slime (held to 138 total yards while racking up the scoreboard). I told you last week, DAL is dangerous.
    7. San Diego Chargers (Marty's Team) - Three losses with Q4 leads. What was that call on the 2pt conversion? The play is to Gates, not a the RB who has been shut down the whole game. 2 - 3 with division roadie ahead at OAK.
    8. The Green Slime - Just when I give them their due, they pull a no-show. Outcome was never in doubt. McNabb looked lost. 19 yards Rushing! Ouch! Now the Green Slime is 3 - 2. Kudos to the first Coach Bill!

    9. The Next Best 4
    10. The YUKS - Hard loss to NYJ. Falling back to earth. Granted, NYJ had to have home W, but elite teams overcome that obstacle. The YUKS did not.
    11. Atlanta Falcons - With M.Vick, they are a different squad. More attitude and confidence. They seemed tentative v. CHAMPS and it cost them. ATL will recover next week.
    12. Carolina Panthers - Nice roadie wn in the desert, coming back from 10 down in Q4. Run defense was tough. Steve Smith really has game!!!
    13. Seattle Seahawks - Strong, well rounded "O", even with the injuries. Slapped STL on the road. Maybe the best in the West!

    14. The Parity Rules These 13
    15. Donkeys - This team moves up only because they beat mediocre teams. Sorry Donkey fans, I am unimpressed with this team's offense!
    16. Washington Redskins - Couldn't seal the deal at 5200 ft. Perhaps their best played game of the year! Brunell throws a nice ball. Still some zip left in that old arm!
    17. Kansas City Chiefs - BYE WEEK. They need at after disgraceful performances at Donkeys and v. Green Slime.
    18. Detroit Lions - Just enough to win. They gotta thank the BAD BIRDS for losing their cool!
    19. Chicago Bears - My analysis was on the money. Bad "O" not only can't score, but they turn the ball over (2x in Q4). This was a game they should have had.
    20. New Orleans Saints - Saints played like the Jags did last week. Brooks was terrible; yanked in Q3. Defense and Specials were just bad. And the Pack stink! Ouch!
    21. PHISH - Road wimps. Dropped balls. Listless "D". 5 TOs in foreign land always spells doom! But Ricky's Back!
    22. Jacksonville Jaguars - #7 played better this week. He is smart and bold. Taylor played lights out! Defensive takes on the mindset of the Coach (from Bay Area's Hayward High).
    23. Gang Green - Vinny/Coles connection is back! The TE is pretty good! Defense played well. Bob Wolf for kicker? Nah!
    24. Arizona Cardinals - Brutal loss at home. Ouch! The offensive needs an RB! Love the WRs! But too many TOs!
    25. The Buffalo Wings - A must win at home aganist AFC foe PHISH. Not pretty, but nobody in Orchard Park cares. Beer and Wings for the bar!
    26. Cleveland Browns - Played one good quarter (Q4) - Dilfer threw two TDs off of TOs. If they want to move up, gotta play 60 minutes.
    27. St. Louis Rams - STL has lost the wager. Now they lost their coach. More losses to follow. STL stinks!

    28. The Bottom Feeders
    29. The Tin Men - BYE WEEK. Can they turn the season around v. SD. I think they can!!!
    30. Green Bay Packers - What the heck was that? An onslaught! But it was a one week wonder!
    31. Baltimore Ravens (BAD BIRDS) - 21 penalties (sounds like the Tin Men). Lethargic Offense. Lost their cool! Nothing else to say but shameful!
    32. San Francisco 49ers - Never had a chance! Bad first outing for A#1 v. very good D (4 picks). It can only get better (I think).
    33. Mahwah High School Class of 1979 - After the drubbing of always tough Elmwood Park, The T-Birds travel to feeble Glen Rock. Zarcone sure is protecting the QB! Who said Floyd can't catch? Fasce's two botched snaps were not of consequence.
    34. Tennessee Titans - A bad team beat a dreadful team. But a win is a win!
    35. Minnesota Vikings (Piglets) - BYE for the Piglets. Thank goodness!

    36. No Longer Worth Mentioning
    37. Houston Texans

    38. PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Matt Hasselbeck led SEA without his top two guys to a huge division road win in STL. He threw for 342 yds and two TDs. He has a toughness about him that is hard to describe. Now I understand why Holmgren likes him so much.

      Week 6 Highlights

SD v OAK - If OAK wants to turn around their season, it starts Sunday at home v. long time rival SD.
NYG v DAL - This one will be fun to watch! Inter-divisional rival. Bodies will fly. Too bad the coaches are butt buddies, then the ^&*((*& would really fly!
NE v DEN - Now we will see if the Donkeys are for real. I highly doubt it. MINN v CHIC - This week's stinker. It is unfortunate the the winner of this game is in the thick of the NFC North Race. I wish that one day, these two teams would be good at the same time. I do not see that happening anytime soon.

Have an opinion? Don't be shy, share it with me! Drop me an email at Opinion@allan-brown.com.

      Notes from Week 4:

I had the chance to receive an exclusive invite to watch this week's games at the infamous Studio B, located in the heart of San Lorenzo, CA. Stacked with seven (7) TVs, the manager of Studio B, affectionately known as the Whale, ensures that his guests are well taken care of and provided for. I am really a low maintenance guest - just give me Big Blue on the main tube and I am happy. Beats any sportsbar in the US! Hail to Studio B!

What a great week of NFL Football! We had fat tackles scoring touchdowns, long snappers snagging TDs, fat kickers and skinny kickers booting the heck out of the ball; even one who kicks at 7,300 ft. Have had our fair share of tough guys; tough teams and bad QB play (ie Gang Green and 49ers). We even had our first betting mulligan!

Once again, Michael Brown of brotherhood fame wonders outloud why the Giants get no respect. Your thoughts? Send your opinion to opinion@allan-brown.com

    1. JAX, MINN, 49ers, Gang Green and the KC defense were downright embarrassing
    2. True or False. Charles Woodson has not made a meaningful play since "The Tuck" in '01. And he was on the wrong side of that play! Why the hype?
    3. Jeremy Shockley and Antonio Gates have left Tony Gonzales in the rear view mirror in the race for the best TE in the game.
    4. DEN fans, take a chill pill. Your team beat a banged-up JAX squad on 2 TDs by a fat TE turned OT. Otherwise, this pathetic excuse for a NFL game could have been even more brutal!
    5. AZ will still win the NFC West. No need to re-forecast!
    6. SD is RISING! FAST! Marty has them on top of their game
    7. INDY Offense woke up. What took so long?
    8. Did the referees throw too many flags or was I just concentrating on the Tin Men (OAK)?
    9. Donovan McNabb is very good. So is Eli Manning, Terrell Owens, Plaxico Burress, LaDamian Tomlinson and Drew Brees. Larry Fitzgerald isn't too bad himself!

    10. The Betting Mulligan

I was privy this weekend to something I had never heard of before - the Betting Mulligan.

    1. The Green Slime - It pains me to write this, but right now, they are the best the NFL has to offer. #5,#20,#81 are superstar players. The comeback v.KC was the best I have seen in years by a road team! I dislike the Green Slime, but I give them their due.
    2. San Diego Chargers (Marty's Team) - Destroyed NYG and now The Champs. SoCal's NFL juggernaut is blasting its way through my top ten. Next on tap, MNF v. PITT in SD.
    3. Cincinnati Bengals - For the first time in 15 years, CINTI was complacent because they knew how much better they are than HOU. But they won, that is what counts.
    4. Pittsburgh Steelers - BYE WEEK. Nothing to report. Should keep giving Parker his touches. NFL MNF at SD is a biggie!
    5. Indianapolis Colts - Patsie schedule for ESPN's world-beater. Offense came around this week, and with 49ers next on tap, they do not have a toughie until MNF 11.7 v. NE.
    6. New York Giants - Eli to Burress; Eli to Shockey. Tons of weapons. Defense is still suspect. Stats are padded aganist defense - Bulger threw 62x; Warner 40+. BYE week then off to visit Coach Bill in DAL.
    7. The Champs - I told you they would miss R. Harrison. It appears the injury bug may have caught up to them. Next week in ATL is a tough tough test.

    8. The Next Best 3
    9. The YUKS - OK, they are 4 - 0, but they have not beaten any very good teams. First tough game is Nov 6 v. division rival Carolina.
    10. Atlanta Falcons - Defense is great, Michael Vick is exciting. Warrick Dunn is special. But they beat a piglet of a team (MINN). Not convinced that they are a top-tier team.
    11. Carolina Panthers - Held on v. Pack. Need to turn up the volume!

    12. The Parity Rules These 15
    13. Washington Redskins - Don't be fooled by last Sunday v. SEA. This team plays little "O". Road v. DEN, KC on the horizon. Big Blue in NY (err. NJ) on 10.30.
    14. Seattle Seahawks - Road Warriors and Matt Hasselbeck are not often mentioned in the same sentence. Kicker clangs the game winner off the goal post. Tough beat for these dismal homers.
    15. Dallas Cowboys - California's team now gets to go "home". I think this team is dangerous. Week 6 v. NYG will be fun. Sorry Milardo and the Russkie, you are going down!
    16. Kansas City Chiefs - They let the long snapper score a TD. The Defense gave up! TANK JOB!
    17. Detroit Lions - Dormant offense gets jobbed in TB. Defense crashes into the Cadillac! Schizo squad.
    18. Chicago Bears - First place BEARS take on the CLEVE in a thriller, this Sunday, October 8 at 1pm ET! That was more hype than this game deserves!
    19. New Orleans Saints - Nice boring home win in the Alamo? Ever been there? It is really small. But it is home (for now!)
    20. PHISH - BYE WEEK. Hope Junior is back this week v. BUFF
    21. Donkeys - Plummer picked apart JAX with short stuff. Fat lineman gets 2TDs. What does that tell you about the "O"? Defense was solid - great effort.
    22. Arizona Cardinals - Nice recovery for AZ. No need to reforecast. Boldin and Fitzgerald are top 5 tandem in NFL.
    23. Jacksonville Jaguars - That was just bad. BAD BAD BAD! I know that Leftwich is hurt, but... BAD BAD BAD!
    24. St. Louis Rams - Eli torched them good! Tell me, why do people believe that this team is a contender? STL stinks!
    25. The Buffalo Wings - Remember the Alamo!!! Well, maybe not!
    26. Cleveland Browns - BYE WEEK. Absolutely nothing to say.
    27. Gang Green - Can they salvage their damaged season v. YUKS? Nah. Welcome back Vinny! Nah! Is Al Woodall in the audience? Marty Siegal for QB!

    28. The Bottom Feeders
    29. The Tin Men - FLAGS, POOR TACKLING, LETHARGIC PLAY! This team plays like it OD on hemp.
    30. Green Bay Packers - Good effort, just too many hurts and too little gifts.
    31. Baltimore Ravens - Beating Gang Green keeps them alive. Barely!
    32. San Francisco 49ers - DOWN DOWN DOWN DOWN DOWN. Even though they were up 14 - 0, this game was never in doubt. Now that is a sad statement!
    33. Mahwah High School Class of 1979 - Milardo, Floyd, Zarcone, Dole, Bowens and Brown. 10 - 1 State Champs. The stuff legends are made of. Bowens averaged over 9 yards a carry! Larry, AZ is calling!
    34. Tennessee Titans - They just lack talent across the board. I actually feel for McNair and Fisher
    35. Minnesota Vikings (Piglets) - That was some effort v. Vickless ATL. One more and the Piglets are on toast with mustard and cheese.
    36. Houston Texans - Who cares???? Who really cares????? Only reason I did not drop them was because of the effort. A one week reprieve

    37. PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Donovan McNabb of the Green Slime led the Slime from a 24 - 6 deficient on the road to a 37 - 31 thrashing of KC. He could have called it a day, rested his ailing body and taken the out of conference road loss. But he turned it up a notch and I swear he was playing catch with his receiver.

      Week 5 Highlights

PITT v. SD - Is PITT for real? Can SD kick there butt like they did v. Big Blue and the Champs? Enquiring Minds Want to Know!
PHIL v. DAL - This one will be fun to watch! McNabb is going to get hit. Parcells needs this game badly!
CAR v. AZ - Cardinals go for two in a row. CAR needs to develop some consistency. INDY v. SF - Which will be more interesting - Peyton's aerial show or the Blue Angels screaming over the Bay this Sunday?

    Notes from Week 3:
After three weeks of the season, we have several interesting story lines. The all round play of CINTI, the resilient champs, the fall of the Pack. But nothing stands out more than season-ending injuries to several key players. This week, C.Pennington, T.Spikes, R.Harrison and J.Bellamy join same frat has J.Walker, D.Darius, K.Jenkins, M.Lewis and others whose season has ended prematurely. Other notables like K. Warner and J. Fiedler will miss significant time. Only Marcus Floyd and Butkus still think that this league is for patsies!!!

Whale wonders outloud (if you know the guy, he never shuts up) about how KC and NYG can look so good two weeks running and so bad on national broadcasts in Week 3. I ask the same question! Your thoughts? Send your opinion to opinion@allan-brown.com

    1. Power Ratings The Champs! - Brady eats up PITT alive in the 4th. This teams finds a way to get it done. That is why they are Champs. Harrison loss looms large. ESPN has NE #2. Why not #1?
    2. Pittsburgh Steelers - Defense did not step up when it mattered. Luck to keep #3!
    3. Cincinnati Bengals - I am a believer! Are you? The Johnson's are pretty big! Defense now has the Lewis' look and feel.

    4. The Next Best 8 The YUKS - The Pewter Cadillac just hums! Griese is error-free and the defense is stellar! Things look good for J. Gruden (A.Davis, what did you learn this week?)
    5. Indianapolis Colts - Where does ESPN get off making INDY #1! I did not know payola existed in the Midwest! The beat a bad team and scored only 13 pts in home W v. CLEVE.
    6. New York Giants - Defense took the flight to LV Saturday night, bet the games and missed the flight to SD. At least I think they did. ESPN has them at #16. The Boys of Bristol are tough customers.
    7. The Green Slime - Couldn't put away the Tin Men. Pass defense is suspect, despite the rep. Their toughest player is the kicker. But a win is a win.
    8. San Diego Chargers - Passing game 20 - 23. Tomlinson was great! Let's see what they do in the Champs' home turf.
    9. Carolina Panthers - Tough beat v. PHISH. There #2 wideout is on vacation. Smith is pretty special, eh?
    10. Jacksonville Jaguars - I like these guys. Leftwich/Smith/Taylor is a nice three-some (in '05, more potent that INDY's three.
    11. Atlanta Falcons - Just happy to get off the road and back home. Not convinced that they are a top-tier team. Good balance this week v. Buff.

    12. The Parity Rules These 10 Kansas City Chiefs - Where was the effort v. Donkeys? L. Johnson was Casper the Ghost with a helmut.
    13. Seattle Seahawks - Alexander ran over a battered, demoralized AZ squad. Let's see if they beat a dismal squad on the road.
    14. Gang Green - 7 plays, two QBs out! Vinny's back. Will find a way to beat BALT.
    15. Washington Redskins - Don't be fooled by last MNF. This team plays little "O". True colors will show v. SEA.
    16. Dallas Cowboys - Bledsoe did well v. SF; I bet he will duplicate v. Tin Men. Nice Win for Coach Bill!
    17. Detroit Lions - Will Jekyll or Hyde show up v. YUKS? Harrington better answer the call or the Paper Lion starts next week.
    18. Chicago Bears - 5 INTs = no chance.
    19. New Orleans Saints - Finally, a "home" game in SA v. BUFF. Banged-up squad in a must game v. Buff. Did I hear the LA Aint's? NAH!
    20. PHISH - Could they be for real? I don't know. But they need Seau to be healthy!
    21. Donkeys - Big jump because of MNF, Plummer did not hurt them. But he better be good v. JAX! He won't be!

    22. The Lower 5 St. Louis Rams - Sorry, but I am not convinced. They should have run TENN out of the state. They didn't.
    23. The Buffalo Wings - Losman is lousy; Spikes was Spiked by the turf. Put a fork in the Buffalo Wings and drown a pint of Matts 'cause their game is over!
    24. San Francisco 49ers - UP and DOWN. Rattay needs to play better for 4 QTRs. Defense secondary is suspect. Off to Mexico! Must win for a 2-0 in NFC WORST (WEST)!
    25. Cleveland Browns - Just when you thought...I did not think, you did. They are not very good yet.
    26. Arizona Cardinals - Very disturbing. No running game, no QB with Arena Boy sidelined. I may have to reforecast my prediction.

    27. The Bottom Feeders The Tin Men - The kicker done died (or drank too much on South Street). Too many penalties. Defense is playing better.
    28. Tennessee Titans - Great coaching can only go so far!
    29. Green Bay Packers - Good effort, but they just do not have the talent!
    30. Baltimore Ravens - This team is terrible. ESPN's 26 ranking is a gift! Overrated team defense; little offensive. Never more, never more. One more week and the fall out of the ratings! Did anybody say Trent Dilfer?
    31. Minnesota Vikings - Must win v. NO. Can they beat ATL in ATL? Doubtful! Why did ESPN rank them #19?
    32. Houston Texans - Who cares???? Who really cares????? I might drop them from the pool!!!

Week 4 Highlights SD v. NE - Too bad R. Harrison is hurt - this was his grudge match. SD was a machine last week? Can they do it again?

Green Slime v. KC - This one will be fun to watch! KC needs this game to reestablish themselves after MNF debacle

STL v NYG - NYG needs to shake the cobwebs; STL needs to be a quality team.

      Notes from Week 2:
    1. The Giants have now really have Thunder and Lightning! Barber and Jacobs? WOW! And the defense isn't too shabby!
    2. Chad Pennington looked better, but my jury is still out.
    3. Was that the real Bears we saw Sunday? Nah!
    4. Here's to Laveranues Coles. That took guts!
    5. How can a team look so good one week and so bad the next? Maybe that was Saint Mary?s Prep that played the Eagles.
    6. REPEAT FROM LAST WEEK! Do you think that Randy Moss is missed in MINN? Anyone who thinks MINN is better with out MOSS should consider therapy.
    7. You cannot win in the NFL if you turn the ball over. You also have to create turnovers. MINN, OAK, NO and DET might want to learn how to hold onto the ball.
    8. OAK has a problem with the yellow flag. Always has and I think, always will.
    9. Tampa Bay's Defense is back. Green Bay's isn?t.
    10. Arizona will still win the NFC West.
    11. Slater says that the QB play in the NFL stinks because the game is too fast. I think he may have a point. Your thoughts? Send your opinion to opinion@allan-brown.com

      Power Ratings
    1. New England Patriots - Interesting how CAR shut them down offensively yesterday. Defensive effort was still strong. No need for concern, even with PITT looming next week. ESPN has NE #3. Too many late nights in Bristol.
    2. New York Giants - ESPN has them at #11. Must be fall air in Bristol has their heads in a daze. Thunder and Lightning. Manning to Shockey; Manning to Burress? This team is POWERFUL! Tough v. RUN. The Coach is a hard-ass! Bring on the Green Slime!!!
    3. Pittsburgh Steelers - Kudos to Cowher for never putting Big Ben in a position to lose. Parker is just the latest in a series of plug-in backs for PITT that always produce. Defense is solid; Offense is obviously fundamental. But, they have yet to beat a decent team.

    4. The Middle 14
    5. The Green Slime - McNabb hammered SF. Defense played great! Game was over by the 9 minute mark in first QTR. But they are the Green Slime. NYG/PHI will be a doozy!
    6. Carolina Panthers - HUGE WIN! Defense shut down Dillon cold. Can they continue to build upon the success?
    7. Cincinnati Bengals - For real!!! Palmer is the real deal. And the defense can hit and cover!
    8. Indianapolis Colts - Where does ESPN get off making INDY #1! The beat a bad team and scored only 10 pts in home W v. JAX. Granted, Defense is tough, but #1. Don't think so!
    9. The YUKS - Keep riding that Pewter Cadillac! And the Defense looks good too!
    10. Jacksonville Jaguars - Tremendous effort by the Jags. Defense looks tough. This is a good team! Losing Darius hurts!!!
    11. Atlanta Falcons - Strong defense. Overrated offensive. But Vick is exciting to watch.
    12. Kansas City Chiefs - Big road win in the division. Nice Defense (for a change!)
    13. New Orleans Saints - Good teams do not run gadget plays on the opening kickoff. Offensive is pretty good (receivers are studs, QB is good; RB off to slow start); but needs to hold onto the ball.
    14. Gang Green - Big win at home for NYJ against the much improved PHISH.
    15. Chicago Bears - They found offense and defense v DET. Can they sustain their level of play?
    16. Washington Redskins - I used to root for the every team that played the Redskins. I don't have to spend the energy anymore, the are mediocre at best.
    17. Seattle Seahawks - Hasselbeck and Alexander are special offensive players. Defensive looked good yesterday. But this team is just dismal.
    18. Detroit Lions - 5 INTs. Poor defensive play! Another Jekyll and Hyde team!

    19. The Lower 8
    20. Dallas Cowboys - What the hell was that? Parcells never let that happen with Ole Blue!!!
    21. Buffalo Bills - Lackluster effort against the YUKs. McGahee needs to shine next week v. ATL. JP Losman still gets carded in Western NY clubs.
    22. Arizona Cardinals - Very disappointing performance v. STL. A sack and a false start to end the game. Still out gained STL by 100 yards. Will still win the NFC West.
    23. San Francisco 49ers - Blah! Nice effort! Should have bashed #81's head! Let's hope Week 1 was not an aberration!
    24. Cleveland Browns - Nice first win for Romeo. Did it on the road in a tough house. Edwards is the deal! Trent Dilfer!!!
    25. PHISH - Good effort in road loss to NYJ. MIA will be tough all year - not very good, but tough.
    26. St. Louis Rams - The jury is still out. Running back has potential, but he is not ready yet for 30 carries.
    27. San Diego Chargers - Tough road loss. And 0 - 3 looms ahead.

    28. The Bottom Feeders
    29. The Tin Men - Another listless performance by OAK. Too many drops and penalties. Better Defensive Effort.
    30. Tennessee Titans - Nice effort, albeit against a worthless offensive team.
    31. Green Bay Packers - Overrated for three years running. Now everyone will acknowledge that the Pack is back to their team of the '80s.
    32. Baltimore Ravens - This team is terrible. ESPN's 25 ranking is a gift! Overrated team defense; little offensive. Never more, never more. One more week and the fall out of the ratings! Did anybody say Trent Dilfer?
    33. Houston Texans - Who cares???? Who really cares?????
    34. Minnesota Vikings - Team in disarray. The pundits think that this team is better without Moss. Better without the best playmaker of the last 30 years? Hmmm? 5 INT does not help.
    35. Donkeys - They won a must game v. SD, but I still think they stink!

    36. Week 3 Highlights

NYG and the Brown brothers travel to SD. Stutts better hope that the rout is not too embarrassing.
PITT v. NE - Will be a doozy!
JAX v. NYJ - This one will be fun to watch!
TENN v. STL - a rematch of Superbowl XXXIV (who cares, these two teams stink!)

      Notes from Week 1
    1. If anyone wants to know why Javon Walker wanted to get paid, now you know why. I am far from a liberal, but the owners have an obligation to take care of players that produce. This guy gets his season knocked out by artificial turf. Shameful!!!
    2. The Giants have now really have Thunder and Lightning. Barber and Jacobs – WOW!
    3. The Chargers suspend Antonio Gates for the first game over a contract dispute. How’s that for cutting off the nose to spite the face.
    4. Chad Pennington is really hurt. No zip on his ball. No zip, no playoffs for the JETS!
    5. Denver stinks.
    6. Do you think that Randy Moss is missed in MINN? Anyone who thinks MINN is better with out should consider therapy.
    7. San Francisco is well coached.
    8. Oakland is not.
    9. Buffalo is pretty good. So is Detroit.
    10. Arizona will still win the NFC West.
    11. Good for New Orleans. Next week, home opener in East Rutherford!
      Power Ratings
    1. New England – BEST TEAM; BEST COACH. May not have the best players, but they play as a unit. A joy to watch!
    2. New York Giants - More Offensive Talent on this team than they have had in years. Maybe the most in the NFL. Coach is very good. I like his tough nature.
    3. Pittsburgh Steelers - Very well coached; plug in a back and watch him run. We like Willie Parker. A lot

    4. Middle 15 (alphabetical order)
    5. Atlanta – Strong defense. The young corners are very good.
    6. Arizona – Well coached. Potent Receivers. Good defensive. Need a running game. Will win the NFC West.
    7. Buffalo – Nice effort on both sides of the ball
    8. Carolina – tough home loss. Jenkins loss in the middle of D-line is devastating
    9. Cincinnati – For real. Good offense, Defense is getting better. Watch out Pitt.
    10. Dallas – Big road win for California’s team away from California
    11. Detroit – Potent Offensive. Will win the NFC North.
    12. Indianapolis – Efficient and effective, but not outstanding.
    13. Jacksonville – Leftwich is the best QB in FL, which says something good. Defense takes the look of the coach.
    14. Kansas City – Very impressive showing against a good NYJ team. Nice Defense
    15. New Orleans – Strong Defensive complements conservative, yet effective offense.
    16. Philadelphia (Green Slime) – Hard to like, but I respect the coach. Bounce back next week v. SF.
    17. San Diego – Tough home loss. Gates is back next week. Why he was suspended is still a mystery to me.
    18. San Francisco – The coach did a super job. The QB was effective and the Defense was tremendous. We can only hope for the same effort next week.
    19. Tampa Bay (YUKS) – Ride that Pewter Cadillac!

    20. Lower 10
    21. Baltimore – overrated team defense; little offensive. Never more, never more.
    22. Chicago – calling for offensive!
    23. Cleveland – Ex. NYG coach has a long way to go!
    24. Green Bay – Overrated for three years running. Now everyone will acknowledge that the Pack is back to the team of the ‘80s.
    25. Houston – Who cares????
    26. Miami – One week is not a season. Especially v. DEN.
    27. New York Jets – Pennington is now officially a concern. So is the coach!
    28. Seattle – This team is like a wall switch. They are on and off!
    29. St. Louis – Poorly coached, Suspect Defense. Running back has potential, but he is not ready yet for 30 carries.
    30. Washington – Seven years ago, they yanked Gus FRE ROT after the first half of the first game. Now, Ramsey has been yanked. Why bother to compete for the job?!? Waste of training camp.

    31. The Bottom Feeders
    32. Oakland – Listless performance. Embarrassing defensive display. The Tin Men are back. And the young coach you should have hired in across the bay.
    33. Tennessee – I did not want to classify them as bottom feeder. I just had no choice.
    34. Minnesota – The pundits think that this team is better without Moss. Better without the best playmaker of the last 30 years. Hmmm…
    35. Denver – Just terrible. Not even competitive v. Gus FRE ROT. Nothing else to say.
